Release Details

At long last it looks like “The Fods” are wrapping up the recording of an E.P. code-named “Don’t Argue“, which is all about using the trusty “Lo Fi” methods employed by Good Stock Records artists to great effect.

The tunes that will appear on the E.P. were originally written and recorded under the band name of Don’t Argue back in the mid 1990s. Songs that were forgotten, remembered, discarded, plundered, and resurrected from a set of 4-track tapes which barely play. That running order then:

  • Metal Dog ( Sealby / Collins )
  • My Fine Derangement ( Critchley / Collins )
  • You’ve Not Got Me ( Critchley / Collins )
  • Kickback ( Critchley / Collins / Sealby / Ranson )
  • Good Night’s Sleep ( Critchley / Collins / Sealby )
  • Volumes Of Silence ( Critchley / Collins )
  • Easter ( Critchley / Collins )

The Don’t Argue project will refresh and modernise some of these songs whilst remaining true to their original styles; ranging from (mildly) angry Cheshire punk, metal social commentary, and the odd indie-banger.

The original line-up of Don’t Argue weren’t able to undertake a full reformation on account of geography and general maturity, however all have provided their blessing for The Fods to take this on. The EP has been co-produced by Ol and original vocalist and writer Rob Critchley.

The lead single You’ve Not Got Me was released in December 2023, with My Fine Derangement following in May 2024, and Volumes Of Silence in August. At long last we have the full-on 7 track release (imminent!)

For this EP, The Fods are:

  • Ol Collins -guitars, keys, programming, backing vocals
  • Rob Critch – co-producer, backing vocals
  • Alan Winn – guitars, vocals, backing vocals
  • Ez Ranson – guitars, vocals, backing vocals
  • Speaks – mixing, mastering and general grimacing

Lead Vocals vary from track to track and we have been very privileged to secure the services of some fantastic vocalists:

  • Birch – from Go Birch – You’ve Not Got Me, Kickback, My Fine Derangement
  • D J Blackmore – from Teddy Head – Metal Dog (along with The Fods ensemble), Easter
  • Jeff Maiers – from J.H.M. – Volumes of Silence
  • Also appearing: – M.J. Cepparo on Volumes of Silence, and our very own Alan Winn (lead on Good Night’s Sleep) and Ez Ranson (a brief but memorable stint on Easter)
