Release Details

“This Rain” is a song about second chances and new beginnings. It’s written from the perspective of a positive minded person constantly being faced with a negative response from another. The ‘rain’ is a metaphor for an incessant downpour of ‘reasons why not’. ’Coffee stains’ from banging down a cup in frustration.

The song is asking, ‘can we just stop doing this and start again?’. ‘This smile is a lie, but let’s have another try.’

“This Rain” was released previously as part of the Remote EP, when The Goodstock Project were just starting out. If you’ve followed the band’s journey, you’ll know that all drums for those songs were recorded on an iPhone. Ben, the drummer, has since invested in some actual microphones and suggested that “This Rain” may benefit from a bigger drum sound. The band agreed and Ben re-recorded the drum track.

Ken Stringfellow

Around this time, Ol, Ben and Speaks went to see Ken Stringfellow perform at The Pier Hat in Manchester. Ken is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, arranger, and producer. Best known for his work with The Posies, R.E.M., and the re-formed Big Star.

The GSP band members were completely blown away by what they witnessed. It was an intimate and inspirational gig, a very special moment in their gig watching lives. They remained in touch with Ken and were offered the incredible opportunity of having him mix This Rain. Not only that, but he contributed some piano, Hammond organ and guitar.

So, the band are honoured to have him with them on the track too. The result is a huge sound which the band are incredibly proud to present to you. Please crank it up and enjoy!
